Our orthodontist recently recommended that you have braces in Modesto, California. Your braces will help you reach straighter, healthier teeth. Did you know that there are certain things that you can do to protect your braces to ensure that your straightening treatment stays on schedule? Dr. Ronald Champion and our team are happy to give you tips to help you keep your braces in good shape.
Foods to Avoid
When your braces are placed, our orthodontist will give you a list of foods to stay away from while wearing braces. In general, you should avoid any food that is sticky, chewy, or hard. Sticky foods include caramel and gummy candy. These are likely to get stuck in your braces. Crunchy food like popcorn can become lodged in the braces. They can even make parts of your braces snap when you bite them.
When Accidents Happen
Even if you are cautious with your braces, accidents can happen. For instance, an injury to the face can cause a bracket or wire to become loose or broken. If this happens, call Champion Orthodontics as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. You can use orthodontic wax to temporarily reattach a loose bracket or to cover the end of a wire that is sticking out.
