For many years, the stereotypical orthodontic patients have been children and teenagers. However, as the years have gone on, many adults have begun to consider the benefits of braces or other procedures to straighten their smiles. Not only can an orthodontic treatment give you a more appealing smile, it can also correct problems with your bite known as “malocclusions.” A malocclusion occurs when your teeth strike each other at improper angles often causing damage to your tooth enamel.

Before you begin a course of treatment, you will need to meet with our orthodontist, Dr. Ronald Champion for an exam and a consultation. There are some factors unique to adults that need to be considered.

For example, the jaws of adults have stopped growing, and the jaws bones have hardened. In that case, your treatment may take longer than it would for a younger person. As the years have gone by, you may have lost bone mass in jaw in the spaces between your which means there may not be as much blood flow as in earlier years. Over the course of your life, you may have had teeth extracted, and the spaces left behind may not be suitable for your teeth they begin to move.
