Tips on Fixing Irritations With Braces

Posted .

Braces are a great appliance that can give you the smile you’re looking for. During the treatment, things can happen and make the braces a little uncomfortable, like breaking a bracket, bending a wire, and more. To help you in situations like these, our orthodontist, Dr. Joti Kaler, would like to give you the tips you need. That way you can have a comfortable and convenient orthodontic experience.

-For cuts and sores in the mouth: It’s best to help the cuts and sores heal by swishing with salt water. Then, cover the appliance with orthodontic wax. You’ll only need to cover the areas that are bothering you the most.

-For broken brackets: Try to keep the bracket in place so you don’t extremely affect the treatment plan. You can keep it in place by covering it with orthodontic wax. Make sure to schedule an appointment as soon as possible to get the problem fixed.

-For broken or bent wires: Use a pencil eraser to push the wire back into place. Then, cover the wire with orthodontic wax to keep it from bothering your mouth. If you can’t reposition the wire, you can clip it with fingernail clippers. Make sure to schedule an appointment to get the wire fixed.
